MOSCOW, Russia: Twitter has been fined $42,000 by a Russian court after being found guilty of not deleting content that is illegal in Russia.
In court, Russian prosecutors said Twitter had allowed content to be posted, ranging from drug abuse to child pornography, all of which has been banned in Russia.
As a first step last month, Moscow slowed the internet speed of Twitter when operating in Russia.
On March 16, Russia gave Twitter one month to remove the banned content from its Russian-language platform.
While there was no comment from Twitter following the court ruling, in the past Twitter has denied that its patform had been used to post content banned in Russia.
